Changwon Special City, 6 Locations Including Changwon General Bus Terminal Public Parking Lot
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam Province plans to implement paid parking on Sundays and public holidays starting January 1 next year for six off-street public parking lots directly managed by the Facilities Management Corporation.
The city has abolished the "Changwon City Public Paid Parking Lot Management Regulations" and established the "Changwon City Public Paid Parking Lot Management Rules" to reflect changes in administrative environments such as the introduction of unmanned parking control systems and to ensure efficient management of public parking lots.
The parking lots transitioning to paid operation on Sundays and public holidays are ▲ Changwon General Bus Terminal (35-8 Palyong-dong, Uichang-gu) ▲ Myeongseo Commercial District (200-3 Myeongseo-dong, Uichang-gu) ▲ Next to Palyong Police Substation (33-2 Palyong-dong, Uichang-gu) ▲ Sangnam No.1 Public Parking (38-2 Sangnam-dong, Seongsan-gu) ▲ Sangnam No.2 Public Parking (30-2 Sangnam-dong, Seongsan-gu) ▲ Next to Naedong Police Substation (456-22 Naedong, Seongsan-gu), totaling six locations.
The clause stating “closed on Sundays and public holidays” for the deployment of managers, including the introduction of unmanned payment systems, has been deleted. The free holiday operation of parking lots directly managed by the Facilities Management Corporation in the former Changwon area (Uichang-gu and Seongsan-gu) has been unified with the paid holiday operation of 20 privately consigned parking lots managed by the Facilities Management Corporation, 28 consigned parking lots in five districts, four public parking towers managed by Korea Asset Management Corporation, and 16 public parking lots in traditional markets, eliminating regional disparities and standardizing fairness and fee systems across the five districts.
This change is also expected to have a positive effect on securing parking spaces and alleviating downtown parking difficulties caused by long-term parking of vehicles in commercial areas, which had been criticized under the free operation system.
The parking fees for public parking lots are 500 KRW per 30 minutes, 200 KRW for each additional 10 minutes, 1,100 KRW per hour, 6,000 KRW per day, and 85,000 KRW for a monthly season ticket.
Jo Il-am, Director of the Safety, Traffic, and Construction Bureau, said, “We will operate parking spaces more efficiently so that citizens can use public parking lots without inconvenience at any time. We will actively promote projects to create small-scale residential parking lots to contribute to improving parking convenience.”
