The Changnyeong Police Station in Gyeongnam has completed facility improvements near Yeongsan Elementary School to prevent accidents.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] The Changnyeong Police Station in Gyeongnam completed facility improvements to prevent accidents on the road near Yeongsan Elementary School, where a passenger car fatally struck an elementary school student crossing the crosswalk while making a right turn at an unsignalized intersection in a school zone on October 27.
According to the police, a joint inspection was conducted on the intersection where the accident occurred involving related organizations such as the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, Changnyeong Police Station, Changnyeong County, Education Support Office, Road Traffic Authority, and school officials. Following this, the police and the Road Traffic Authority devised improvement plans and recommended them to Changnyeong County.
Since November, a budget of approximately 160 million KRW was invested to carry out construction, including the installation of a speed enforcement camera (both directions) in front of the school main gate, a raised crosswalk and speed bumps at the accident site, reinforcement of various traffic safety signs, maintenance of sidewalks that were in poor condition, and strengthening of safety fences in front of the school and at locations where jaywalking was anticipated, including the accident site.
The police plan to actively allocate budgets and take measures to improve other locations as needed based on the results of facility improvement service orders issued for 18 school zones within Changnyeong jurisdiction.
