[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Hong Taeyong, mayor of Gimhae City, Gyeongnam, met with Park Jonghun, superintendent of the provincial education office, to request the alleviation of overcrowding in high schools in the Juchon and Jangyu areas.
According to the city on the 19th, Mayor Hong discussed major issues related to education with Superintendent Park at the provincial education office on the 16th and proposed measures to address overcrowded schools in the region.
Mayor Hong stated, “The Juchon and Jangyu areas have seen an increase in school-age population due to successive public housing development projects, causing nearby high schools to be filled with students,” adding, “Many students suffer from the inconvenience of long-distance commuting, so we urge the provincial education office to actively work on resolving overcrowding.”
They also exchanged opinions on ▲ the prompt establishment of the Gyeongnam Arts Education Center ▲ utilization plans for school facilities to revitalize the old downtown area ▲ and the relocation plan for Jinyeong Library.
On that day, Choi Hakbeom, vice chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council and a native of Gimhae, and Park Byeongyoung, chairman of the provincial education committee, attended together to support resolving educational issues in Gimhae.
Superintendent Park said, “I deeply empathize with the educational issues in the Gimhae area,” and added, “We will actively cooperate with Gimhae City to ensure that results come out one by one at an early stage.”
