[Seoul District News] Nowon-gu Nokcheon Bridge Underpass Jungnangcheon Inline Skate Park Winter Theme Park Opens on 23rd & Offers Sledding, Skating, and Ice Fishing Experiences ... Mapo-gu Operates Resident Jury for Fair and Transparent Pledge Implementation, Proposes Changes to 14 Pledge Projects
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will open a snow sledding park that the whole family can enjoy on the 23rd to welcome winter.
The district operates the winter theme park "Jungnangcheon Nowon Snow Sledding Park," where families can heal together close to home without having to travel far to the outskirts of Seoul for winter experiences. Since the snow sledding park was canceled just before opening in 2020 due to COVID-19 and is reopening after three years, thorough preparations have been made for more fun and safer operations.
The theme park, created under Nokcheon Bridge at the Jungnangcheon inline skating rink, covers an area of 6,234㎡ and includes various facilities and programs such as snow sledding, skating, ice fishing, and amusement rides.
The main snow sledding area features seven lanes of slopes (10m x 80m). It uses tube sleds, allowing everyone from children to adults to enjoy it. Nowon-gu residents can use it free of charge. Residents from other areas are charged an entrance fee of 2,000 KRW. Proof of residence such as a resident registration card must be presented upon entry for verification.
The ice rink covers 675㎡ and operates seven times a day in one-hour sessions (45 minutes operation - 15 minutes break). Rental fees for skates and helmets are 2,000 KRW. Amusement rides suitable for the theme park are also operated: ▲mini train ▲mini airplane ▲UFO, each available for 3,000 KRW. All rides have passed safety inspections by the Korea Testing Certification (KTC).
On one side, an ice fishing experience is held. In a 60㎡ experience area, the whole family can catch ice fish using a dip net, and the caught fish can be taken home. The participation fee is 5,000 KRW. At the comprehensive experience booth, visitors can enjoy traditional games such as Yutnori, Tuho, and make fans and kites. A resting area is also provided, creating a parent rest zone where ramen, udon, fried chicken, and beverages are sold to satisfy hunger.
The district also strives to create a safe and comfortable environment. Structures such as the snow sledding slopes are regularly inspected by the Building Safety Center. Waste generated by many visitors is regularly collected by the district. A medical room is set up with medical personnel at least at the level of a nurse assistant, and safety staff with CPR certification and emergency treatment training are assigned. Liability insurance for sports facilities has also been completed.
On the opening day, the 23rd, an opening ceremony will be held at 9:30 AM. Along with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, at 10 AM, a congratulatory performance will feature figure skating by Yuk Jung-min, a high school student and Seoul city figure skating athlete.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "We have prepared with great care so that many people can enjoy winter play without burden close to their local area," and added, "I hope the whole family will create wonderful winter memories together with Jungnangcheon Nowon Snow Sledding Park."
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-soo) announced on the 19th that it has successfully completed three rounds of the "Mapo-gu Resident Jury" meetings, a preparatory process to successfully implement the 8th term elected administration's pledge projects.
The district operates a system where, if changes to pledge projects are necessary due to related laws or for effective project implementation during the 8th term administration, the changes are reviewed transparently through the Mapo-gu Resident Jury.
On November 11, the district presented 14 pledge projects out of a total of 37 from the 8th term that required changes in project names or implementation details as agenda items for the Resident Jury meetings to discuss the proposed changes in advance.
Subsequently, to conduct in-depth discussions on the pledge changes, the 2nd and 3rd Resident Jury meetings were held, where project explanations by the responsible departments, Q&A sessions, and discussions took place. The jury reviewed the validity and appropriateness of the changes and approved the modifications to the 14 pledge projects.
The district plans to disclose the adjusted pledge projects on the Mapo-gu Office website in January 2023 so that all residents can verify them.
One jury member who participated said, "I have often seen politicians make pledges just to get elected and then quietly abandon or reduce them. Seeing Mapo-gu ask residents' opinions even on minor changes and reflect residents' suggestions in the pledge implementation made me proud to be a resident of Mapo-gu."
Park Kang-soo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "The operation of the Resident Jury system is meaningful in transparently promoting pledge projects while listening to residents' opinions from the planning stage," and added, "We will do our best to fulfill the pledges to meet the expectations of the jurors and residents who have shown interest and participated in district administration."
