[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is offering a mental prescription to health care recipients experiencing mild depression.
To assist residents struggling with stress or depression, Junggok Health Center will hold a ‘Mental Health Lecture’ on the 20th and 22nd from 10 a.m.
Junggok Health Center in Gwangjin-gu provides health care services for chronic disease patients with uncontrolled blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and has organized mental health lectures to also care for their minds.
On the 20th, participants will learn breathing techniques for physical and mental relaxation and make air fresheners using aroma oils to soothe tired minds.
On the 22nd, the theme will be stress management, including training in physical and mental relaxation and abdominal breathing, followed by a hands-on experience creating harmonious flower pots to help calm the mind.
A professional instructor from the Seoul Psychological Support Center will provide the lectures, offering comfort and rest to residents in need of mindfulness.
If any participant’s depression test indicates severe symptoms or higher, they will be referred to the Mental Health Promotion Center for psychological counseling and specialized treatment, with Junggok Health Center providing ongoing follow-up care to support mental health.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Since health care recipients with chronic diseases are more vulnerable to depression, I hope they actively participate to gain mental stability and comfort.”
Gangnam-gu (Mayor Cho Sung-myung) will hold the December Humanities Concert titled ‘Professor Yang Jung-moo’s Art Story ? The 1% Eye for Masterpieces’ at 6:30 p.m. on the 21st in the lobby of Gangnam-gu Office.
The lecturer, Professor Yang Jung-moo, is a professor at Korea National University of Arts and author of ‘The Difficult Art Story.’ This lecture is expected to be a time to appreciate masterpieces from both Eastern and Western art and explore the charm of art from a humanities perspective.
Additionally, there will be a pre-event Q&A session where participants can ask questions about art. Selected participants from the pre-questions and winners of a post-lecture raffle will receive signed books by Professor Yang Jung-moo as gifts.
Before the lecture, a performance by ‘His Ensemble,’ a string quartet featuring violin, flute, cello, and piano, will set a warm year-end atmosphere fitting for the upcoming Christmas season.
Those interested in attending the Humanities Concert can apply through the Dogok Information and Culture Library website or by phone. Residents who have not registered can also attend by registering on-site at Gangnam-gu Office on the day of the event. For more details, please contact Dogok Information and Culture Library or the Cultural and Sports Division of the district office.
The ‘Gangnam-gu Humanities Concert,’ which offers residents a chance to enjoy the charm of humanities once a month, was suspended for a year due to COVID-19 but resumed last September. The September event featured author Kim Hoon’s ‘Harbin,’ October hosted a ‘Heavenly Feast’ with renowned opera singers and pianists, and November concluded successfully with author Jung Yoo-jung’s book concert.
Cho Sung-myung, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “The resumed Humanities Concert has received much love this year, and we will continue to operate various humanities programs that enrich the lives of our residents.”
