[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced that warm-hearted support from various sectors continues to help marginalized neighbors have a warm winter.

On December 1, Samhwa Group, celebrating its 56th anniversary, donated 50 boxes of local specialties to the Seongbuk Senior Welfare Center and volunteered in meal distribution, personally delivering 1,040 kg of kimchi (worth 8.5 million KRW) to 104 underprivileged households.

Since 2018, Ssangyong C&E, which has been conducting social contribution activities in Seongbuk-gu, donated 6,000 briquettes and 150 kg of kimchi (worth 6 million KRW) to 30 households in Jeongneung 3-dong together with the Global Vision Association.

The food distribution center located in Samseon-dong donated 8,000 kg of salted napa cabbage, which the Saemaeul Women's Association used to make kimchi and delivered to 700 vulnerable households.

Outdoor sportswear specialist Wond Apparel, located in Wolgok-dong, donated 1,080 padded vests (worth 22 million KRW). Singer Park Jae-jung’s fan club ‘teamparc’ celebrated Park Jae-jung’s birthday by donating 2,500 kg of rice (worth 6.5 million KRW) to Seongbuk-gu, where he was born and spent his school years, proudly showing meaningful fan support.

Seongsin Pharmacy, which has continued donations every half year, once again donated 5 million KRW. The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) carried out home repair volunteer work for 13 energy-vulnerable households, installing wallpaper and flooring worth 15 million KRW. Seongtong Solled Co., Ltd., a specialized traffic light manufacturer, donated 3,000 kg of kimchi. Dobong-gu-based advertising production company Dooseung ENG donated 2,000 kg of rice.

Religious organizations also continued their sharing. The Seongbuk-gu Church Association donated 5 million KRW. Heungcheonsa Temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in Donam-dong, which donates 10 million KRW every quarter, continued its 10 million KRW donation. Bongguksa Temple of the Jogye Order in Jeongneung-dong donated 10 million KRW for the second time this year. Doseonsa Temple of the Jogye Order in Gangbuk-gu also donated 3,000 kg of rice.

Anonymous donations continued as well. The “Faceless Angel,” who has already donated 30 million KRW three times since last year, quietly continued their good deeds this time as well.

In addition, donations from individuals and groups continue to flow into all 20 community centers in Seongbuk-gu. Since 2015, Ms. Jang Seon-soon of Wolgok 1-dong, nicknamed the “Recycling Angel” for her annual winter donations to help neighbors in need, donated 180,350 KRW despite the sharp drop in recycling prices, reminding us once again of the meaning of sharing and giving.

Seongbuk-gu is doing its best to ensure that donations and goods from all sectors are delivered quickly and accurately to those in need.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “Despite the harsh winter caused by the COVID-19 aftermath and domestic and international economic downturns, many people have extended warm hands of support and sharing for neighbors in need, and this continues. We will honor those who practiced sharing for marginalized neighbors and strive to further activate the culture of donation.”
