The Chinese government has declared a shift in its COVID-19 prevention policy focus from infection prevention and control to medical treatment.
Mi Feng, spokesperson for the National Health Commission, stated this at the State Council Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism press conference on the 15th. Mi said, "Medical and health institutions play a crucial role in classifying and treating infected individuals, monitoring and managing the health of high-risk groups, and ensuring medical services for key groups such as the elderly and children," adding, "Medical resources should be allocated rationally according to the COVID-19 situation and the severity of the disease to improve the efficiency and quality of medical services." He emphasized that medical and health institutions must strengthen the establishment of fever clinics to build a first line of defense in frontline medical care.
Since the Chinese government announced the easing of prevention measures on the 7th, although statistics have not been publicly released, the spread of infections within China has triggered an emergency in establishing medical response readiness.
