[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hwangmaesan County Park, a representative tourist destination in Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, has achieved the feat of being selected for the 'Korea Tourism 100' for two consecutive times.
The 2023-2024 Korea Tourism 100, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, is a project held every two years to select and promote representative domestic tourist destinations that Koreans and foreigners must visit.
Hapcheon Hwangmaesan County Park has firmly established itself as a representative tourist destination of Korea for two consecutive times since 2021.
Hwangmaesan is called the small Geumgangsan of Yeongnam and is known for its beautiful natural scenery throughout the four seasons: pink mountain azaleas in spring, green plains in summer, silver silver grass in autumn, and snow flowers in winter, drawing admiration from visitors.
In particular, the Hwangmae Plain of Hapcheon Hwangmaesan was developed into a large-scale ranch covering 180 hectares at the entrance of Hwangmaesan in 1984 as part of the government's livestock promotion policy. The dairy cows and sheep raised here ate the surrounding grass except for the toxic azaleas, naturally forming a large azalea colony. In the 1990s, as dairy farms gradually left, silver grass grew in their place, creating a unique landscape where azaleas and silver grass bloom together.
Also, vehicle access is possible up to near the mountain summit, making it a representative tourist destination in Korea that anyone?regardless of age or disability?can easily visit.
In recent years, Hapcheon Hwangmaesan’s azaleas and silver grass have been promoted on various SNS platforms, attracting attention as a hot place among many YouTubers and broadcasters. This year, MBC's Kkokdu's Season, TVN's Tale of the Nine Tailed 2, TVN's Youth Moonlight, TVN's Please Take Care of This Life, Netflix's Theft, KBS documentaries, and Millet CF filming were all shot against the backdrop of Hapcheon Hwangmaesan.
Especially, the global supergroup BTS member RM (28, Kim Nam-joon)’s first official solo album title track "Wild Flower Play" music video was filmed at Hapcheon Hwangmaesan, garnering 28.71 million views on YouTube within 10 days, promoting Hwangmaesan worldwide and expected to attract many foreigners as well as domestic visitors.
County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol said, “Discovering the familiar natural scenery of Hwangmaesan seen in movies and dramas is also a special treat,” adding, “The barrier-free sharing trail completed at the end of September this year in the azalea colony and the forest camping site to be completed at the end of December will become new attractions and experiences of Hwangmaesan next year.”
