'300 Days Until the 2023 National Sports Festival' Mokpo City Accelerates Preparations for Hosting

[Mokpo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] With 300 days remaining until the opening of the 104th National Sports Festival in 2023, Mokpo City is accelerating its preparations for the event.

On the 15th, the city held the ‘104th National Sports Festival D-300 Days Commemoration Event’ at Mokpo Station Plaza, attended by about 1,000 people including Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok, Mokpo Mayor Park Hong-ryul, provincial and city council members, heads of organizations, sports officials, and citizens.

The event began with the entrance of the flags of the two major sports festivals, followed by commemorative speeches, and the unveiling of the National Sports Festival countdown clock tower, symbolizing hopes for a successful event and announcing the preparations for both the National Sports Festival and the Disabled Sports Festival.

Additionally, performances by the Mokpo City Choir, electronic string orchestra, and Mokpo-born singers Park Ae-ri & Poppin Hyun-jun raised the spirit of success.

Mokpo, as the main host city of the 104th National Sports Festival, will hold the opening and closing ceremonies along with 12 sports including athletics and soccer from October 13 to 19, 2023. The 43rd Disabled Sports Festival will take place from November 3 to 8, 2023, featuring 8 sports including athletics and bowling.

Mayor Park Hong-ryul of Mokpo emphasized, “Next year’s National Sports Festival and Disabled Sports Festival will be the first time since the opening of the port that Mokpo hosts these events as the main city. By gathering the power and wisdom of our citizens, we will prepare thoroughly and use these two major sports festivals as an opportunity to establish Mokpo as a sports and tourism city and a hub for training camps.”
