[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Kolon Industries FnC Division (Kolon FnC) announced on the 14th that Han Kyung-ae, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), received the Presidential Citation at the 2022 Korea Fashion Awards in recognition of her leading role in launching the upcycling fashion brand and promoting fashion ESG management.


Since 2008, the Korea Fashion Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Fashion Industry Association, consists of three award ceremonies: the Korea Fashion Awards, the Sewing Industry Award, and the K-Fashion Audition.


Vice President Han, who took on the CSO position for the first time in the domestic industry this year, launched Korea’s first upcycling-based fashion brand, ‘RE;CODE,’ in 2012, introducing the topic of sustainability to the fashion industry. Since then, she has continuously proposed sustainable solutions utilizing fashion inventory for the past 10 years.


Additionally, she launched the lifestyle brand ‘Epigram’ in 2016 and continues to foster coexistence with local communities through the Local Project. The Local Project collaborates with population-declining regions at the county level to introduce Korea’s lesser-known beautiful small towns. In Hadong and Gangjin, the project offers a ‘living experience’ in the area through the Hanok stay ‘Almost Home Stay by Epigram.’


Since 2019, she has overseen Kolon FnC’s flagship outdoor brand, ‘Kolon Sports,’ aiming to transform it into a sustainable outdoor brand. She led the development of biodegradable hangers and eco-friendly mannequins and established a base for spreading sustainability in outdoor brands through the Sosot River Bus located in Jeju. In particular, Kolon Sports plans to produce 50% of all products using eco-friendly materials and processes by next year, the brand’s 50th anniversary.
