[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is holding the ‘Miro Craftmanship_Christmas and Craftsmanship’ exhibition until the 17th on the first floor of Miro Center, Miro 1 exhibition space, to popularize local crafts and explore their potential.
Since 2020, the Dong-gu Miro Center has been operating a marketing support market twice a year and the ‘Dong-gu Craftmanship’ community, where local craft and design artists participate, to popularize craft and design arts according to the preferences of citizens dreaming of making their homes cultural spaces.
This year’s ‘Miro Craftmanship,’ themed around Christmas, is filled with works perfect for gifting to loved ones during the year-end season, including tableware, soban (small traditional Korean tables), and naturally dyed scarves that reflect the individuality of local craftsmen.
Participating artists include about 20 craft and design artists such as ▲Park Yoo-jin (textiles) ▲Woo Sang-wook (ceramics) ▲Moon Jung-woon (metal) ▲Han Woo-seok (woodworking) ▲Lee Won-gyu (glass), who develop craft products based on local resources and present works that connect culture and citizens’ daily lives through crafts.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “It is meaningful to have an exhibition showcasing the works of local craftsmen in one place,” adding, “I hope it will continue to lead the growth of local crafts and grow into a working group where more artists and citizens participate together.”
