[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] OCI announced on the 13th that it has been included in the ‘2022 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) Korea’ for 14 consecutive years.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) is a sustainability evaluation index that comprehensively considers the economic performance of global companies as well as their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) achievements. It is widely used as a standard to assess companies’ sustainability management levels and to assist investors in making responsible investment decisions. This year, 52 domestic companies, accounting for 25.4% of the total 205 evaluated companies, were included in the DJSI Korea index.

OCI received top-tier scores evenly across all areas of environment, society, and governance. OCI is actively exploring sustainable future eco-friendly businesses such as the electric vehicle battery anode material business and the expansion of its solar energy business. In addition, various ESG activities carried out in each sector received favorable evaluations, including ▲ fostering a culture of co-growth with partner companies ▲ establishing a sustainable supply chain system ▲ and establishing an advanced governance structure through the revision of ESG management regulations such as tax strategy and corporate governance charter.

OCI also received an integrated ‘A (Excellent)’ rating for six consecutive years in the 2022 ESG evaluation results recently announced by the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS). It earned an A grade in the social and governance sectors and a B+ grade in the environmental sector.

OCI plans to strengthen its activities by establishing a mid- to long-term roadmap across all sectors of environment, society, and governance, including the enactment of an ‘Environmental Policy’ in 2023 to declare its commitment to environmental management. OCI Vice Chairman Lee Woo-hyun said, “Through continuous efforts to strengthen ESG management, we have achieved the milestone of being included in the DJSI Korea index for 14 consecutive years.” He added, “Going forward, OCI will actively promote ESG activities as a global eco-friendly company and communicate transparently with stakeholders.”
