[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The “Future Marine City Busan Festival,” held by Busan City to promote marine science culture, successfully concluded on the 10th at the National Busan Science Museum.
The “Future Marine City Busan Festival” is an event planned to allow citizens to directly experience selected excellent content from a customized lifelong education program in the marine new industry sector, developed by the city in collaboration with Busan Technopark and Dong-A Science, at the National Busan Science Museum (located in Gijang-gun). It is the only specialized marine new industry experience program in the country.
As a result of recruiting participants online from November 28 to December 4, 74 family teams with elementary school children were selected from about 424 teams and approximately 1,400 applicants, achieving a high competition rate of 5.7 to 1, showing strong interest from citizens.
On the day of the festival, participating teams experienced various programs at the National Busan Science Museum, including quizzes on the marine new industry, making marine science augmented reality (AR) cubes, building smart ships, and creating marine satellites.
Parent A from Gangseo-gu, Busan, who participated in the education, praised, “Although I live in Busan, I could not easily imagine the image of the ocean, but through this education, I realized that I live in the marine capital Busan.” Another parent B from Nam-gu, Busan, expressed satisfaction, saying, “It was a beneficial program that even young children could easily understand the marine new industry,” and hoped for the expansion of related programs.
Kim Byung-gi, Director of the Marine Fisheries Bureau of the city, said, “The enthusiastic interest and participation of citizens in this program provided an opportunity to promote the future marine new industry of the marine capital Busan,” adding, “Our city plans to continue fostering excellent human resources in the marine field by linking with outstanding local educational facilities.”
