Upcycling Reform Contest Awards, KTX Ieum Gwangyang Station Stop Campaign Conducted
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Jeonnam Gwangyang Climate Environment Network held a workshop for carbon neutrality practice on the 7th at Gwangyeong Seoul Buffet, attended by about 80 people including Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, Park Byung-kwan, Executive Director, Jeong Jeong-il and Park Kyung-mi, Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly members, Jeong Gu-ho, Gwangyang City Council member, and Green Leaders.
At this workshop, awards were presented for the Green Leader’s Highest Volunteer Award and Meritorious Service Mayor’s Commendation for efforts to reduce greenhouse gases, as well as the awards ceremony for the winners of the “Citizen Upcycling Reform Contest” held from September 15 to October 24, including Grand Prize (1 person), Gold Prize (1 person), Silver Prize (2 people), and Bronze Prize (4 people).
In addition, the 2022 project achievements of the (Corporation) Gwangyang Climate Environment Network were reported, with major accomplishments including ▲ Green Leader training and free greenhouse gas diagnostic consulting ▲ Support for climate change vulnerable groups and contest for excellent carbon neutrality practice cases ▲ Practice of reducing fine dust on Blue Sky Day ▲ Ice pack reuse, upcycling education, and operation of thrift sharing markets.
The main programs of the workshop included lectures on roles for carbon neutrality practice, a Carbon Neutrality Golden Bell Quiz Contest, and sharing information on greenhouse gas reduction. A campaign for the KTX-Eum Gwangyang Station stop on the Gyeongjeon Line between Suncheon and Bujeon (Busan) was also conducted concurrently.
Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, said, “We will strive to become a leading carbon-neutral city with citizens by realizing carbon neutrality tailored to regional characteristics, expanding green infrastructure such as eco-friendly vehicle distribution and carbon absorption green spaces.”
Meanwhile, the (Corporation) Gwangyang Climate Environment Network is an organization established in 2009 with the participation of citizens, social organizations, companies, and institutions to respond to climate change and realize a low-carbon eco-friendly society, co-represented by the Mayor of Gwangyang, the head of Gwangyang Steelworks, and environmental organizations.
