[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) is expanding the institutions registered for customers with exposed personal information. This is because the risk of personal information being involved in voice phishing or financial fraud has increased, making it necessary to block such incidents promptly.
On the 12th, the FSS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) titled "Expansion of Institutions Linked to the Personal Information Exposure Accident Prevention System and the Roles and Mutual Cooperation among Institutions to Implement This." The event was attended by Lee Bok-hyun, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, Yoon Joo-kyung, a member of the People Power Party, representatives from the Korea Post and the National Credit Union Federation of Korea, as well as heads of financial companies.
The personal information exposure registration system can be used when an ID card is lost or personal information is leaked due to fraud schemes. When a loan or account opening is attempted under a registered name, financial companies apply enhanced identity verification procedures. Previously, applications were possible through banks and the financial consumer portal page "Fine." According to this agreement, starting from the first quarter of next year, it will also be possible at post offices nationwide and Saemaeul Geumgo branches.
Assemblywoman Yoon Joo-kyung stated, "I consider the expansion of institutions linked to the personal information exposure accident prevention system through this agreement to be meaningful," and emphasized, "Through active cooperation among various financial institutions, I hope to prevent financial fraud such as phishing, which is evolving with various methods, and also prevent identity theft damage to financial users."
Lee Bok-hyun, Governor of the FSS, said, "It is expected to contribute to the prevention of financial accidents for residents in areas with few financial company branches," and added, "I am also grateful that major big tech companies are actively participating in preventing the improper use of personal information."
