Prosecutors Focus on Perjury Offenders... 15 Caught in One Month The prosecution conducted a focused investigation on perjurers who disrupt the judicial order.

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The prosecution conducted a focused investigation on perjury offenders who disrupt judicial order.


The Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office Trial Division (Chief Prosecutor Jo Younghee) announced on the 9th that since last month, they have identified 15 individuals involved in perjury and perjury inducement, and have prosecuted 9 of them without detention.


According to the prosecution, these individuals are accused of giving false testimony in court due to personal friendships or economic interests with the defendants. The prosecution stated that the reasons for perjury included personal friendships with the defendants (7 people), economic interests (2 people), and attempts to conceal their own faults (2 people).


Those who committed perjury due to personal friendships testified that they "only struck the ground with a baseball bat and did not assault the person" or, to prevent punishment of an acquaintance police officer, stated in the investigation that "there was no promise to receive a golf club under the pretext of a favor."


Other cases included ▲giving false testimony to benefit the head of the apartment shopping district association they belonged to ▲perjury to conceal facts of prostitution by the parties involved ▲and perjury denying insulting remarks to a superior at the request of a military comrade.


The prosecution stated, "We will continue to respond strictly with thorough investigations into perjury offenders who obstruct judicial procedures in the future, and do our best to restore public trust in the judicial function."
