Jeonnam Fire Department Conducts On-Site Practical Training for New Recruits on Fire Response

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Kim Joil) announced on the 9th that it will conduct on-site practical training for real fire response from the 12th to the 15th.

This real fire response training is aimed at 74 participants of the 14th new appointee course, designed for new appointees with no fire scene experience to observe flames, heat, and smoke, and to learn effective fire suppression methods.

At the Jeonnam Fire School comprehensive training center’s 5th floor “apartment-style” real fire training facility, combustible materials such as wood are burned to raise the temperature to 600~1000℃, recreating an actual fire scene.

In the theoretical course, participants understand the stages of fire progression and characteristics of fire phenomena, and through practical training, they observe ▲ fire-specific phenomena such as ‘rollover’ and ‘flashover’ where flames move along the ceiling ▲ the ‘neutral plane,’ the point where air and smoke layers form during a fire ▲ changes in fire phenomena depending on fuel and ventilation ▲ and train in response techniques for special phenomena at each stage of fire progression.

Kim Joil, Chief of the Fire Headquarters, said, “Real fire training, which allows close experience of fire, is essential training for new appointees,” and added, “Improving the ability to assess and respond to fire characteristics is the most important factor in protecting the lives of residents.”
