Through the final runoff vote, candidate Byeongun Lee secured 52.422% of valid votes
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon National University (President Ko Young-jin) announced that Professor Lee Byung-woon (Department of Public Talent, Law Major, 55 years old), candidate number 1, was elected as the first priority candidate in the election for the 10th president of Suncheon National University.
In this election, a total of four candidates ran: candidate number 1 Lee Byung-woon, candidate number 2 Heo Jae-seon, candidate number 3 Shin Dong-won, and candidate number 4 Jo Rae-cheol.
The election was conducted in three rounds on the 8th via online electronic voting, and in the final runoff vote, candidate Lee Byung-woon received 52.422% of the valid votes, ranking first, while candidate Heo Jae-seon received 39.951% of the valid votes, ranking second.
Candidate Lee Byung-woon, who was selected as the first priority on the day, said, “I am deeply moved to be elected as the first alumnus candidate for president since Suncheon National University was promoted to a four-year national university, but I feel a heavy responsibility in these difficult times,” adding, “As a leader who gives hope to all members, I will deeply consider how and through what means to overcome the crisis situations within the university. Once again, I am grateful and will devote myself fully to the development of the school.”
Han Gwi-hyun, chairman of the Suncheon National University Presidential Appointment Recommendation Committee, said, “In order to prevent a prolonged vacancy in the president position for the development of the university, the voting reflection ratio among representatives of constituent organizations was smoothly agreed upon and implemented, allowing the 10th presidential election to be conducted democratically and fairly without any disruption to the election schedule,” and added, “We thank all candidates and related parties.”
Suncheon National University will recommend the first and second priority presidential candidates to the Ministry of Education after verifying university research ethics according to related regulations. The 10th president will be appointed through a presidential appointment procedure upon the recommendation of the Minister of Education and will serve a four-year term from the date of appointment.
