(Photo) She also checked on their well-being by providing health guidelines to help them stay healthy during the cold weather.

The delivery of items will be carried out through the local community service centers and senior customized care service agencies. A total of 1,140 winter blankets and 600 electric blankets (heating pads) will be provided to low-income elderly living alone, including basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups. The items for the elderly were selected based on preference surveys conducted among the elderly clients of care agencies.

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) held a donation ceremony for warm winter supplies at 2 p.m. on the 8th together with the Jegi-dong Village Event Promotion Committee (Chairman Dong Jin-seon).

The Jegi-dong Village Event Promotion Committee donated the items prepared as prizes and gifts for residents, which were originally intended for the 5th Jegi-dong One Heart Festival scheduled for October 30 but canceled due to the Itaewon tragedy, as warm winter supplies.

The donation ceremony was held in the auditorium on the 4th floor of the Jegi-dong Community Center. The donated items included four 32-inch TVs, eight bicycles, 18 items such as pressure cookers, 40 boxes of gim (seaweed) sets, toilet paper, towels, and more.

Notably, since the donated items were sponsored by local companies for the event, a selection committee composed of sponsors was formed to select the recipients.

The four TVs were provided to elderly living alone in the area who either did not have a TV or were using small CRT TVs. The eight bicycles were prioritized for single-parent families with students. Pressure cookers, microwaves, electric mats, and other items were given to disabled persons with mobility difficulties and households vulnerable to heating issues. The gim sets, toilet paper, towels, and other gifts prepared for residents were sent to 10 local senior centers.

Dong Jin-seon, Chairman of the Jegi-dong Village Event Promotion Committee, said, “It is very regrettable that we could not hold the One Heart Festival due to the Itaewon tragedy, but I am glad that the items prepared as prizes and gifts can be meaningfully used by being delivered to neighbors in need. I would like to thank the sponsors once again for supporting this meaningful event.”

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, who attended the ceremony, said, “Thank you for delivering such special donation items to neighbors in need. Inspired by the sharing spirit of the Jegi-dong Village Event Promotion Committee, we will strive to spread a culture of sharing throughout Dongdaemun-gu.”
