Yeonggwang-gun Selected as an Excellent Case in the National Balanced Development Project Evaluation Report

[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jongman) announced on the 8th that it was selected as an excellent case in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs support account category at the 2022 National Balanced Development Project Excellent Case Evaluation hosted by the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development on the 7th.

The selected excellent case is the eco-friendly agriculture infrastructure project titled ‘Creating New Income for Farmers with Organic Sprout Barley,’ which supports facilities and equipment related to the production, distribution, and processing of eco-friendly agricultural products to establish an eco-friendly agricultural complex district.

The eco-friendly agriculture infrastructure project is a public contest project hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, which invested 700 million KRW to build a low-temperature storage facility and eco-friendly agricultural product preprocessing facilities in Yeonggwang, the only barley industry special zone nationwide.

As a result, it was evaluated that the productivity of eco-friendly sprout barley, which is being fostered as a regional specialty item in Yeonggwang-gun, improved and contributed to stable income generation.

Kim Gwangseok, CEO of Saetteumwon, said, “I am very pleased to be the only excellent case selected in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs sector,” and added, “We will do our best to lead the increase of local income and the development of the local community through win-win cooperation and job creation between Yeonggwang-gun agriculture and enterprises in the future.”

Governor Kang Jongman said, “I am very delighted that the county was the only one selected as an excellent case in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs sector in this year’s National Balanced Development Project evaluation,” and added, “We will continue to spare no administrative support for safe eco-friendly agricultural production, rural economic self-reliance, and revitalization of the local community.”

Meanwhile, the National Balanced Development Project evaluation is conducted annually by the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development to spread successful models of regional balanced development projects. It selects cases with significant ripple effects such as resident participation, economic revitalization, and job creation, which can serve as examples for other ministries and local governments.
