Sancheong-gun to Distribute 12.5 Billion KRW in Basic Public Interest Direct Payments

Direct Area Payments to 3,868 Farms ... Small Farmer Direct Payments to 3,939 Farms

Sancheong-gun to Distribute 12.5 Billion KRW in Basic Public Interest Direct Payments Sancheong County Office, Gyeongnam.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province will pay 12.5 billion KRW in basic public interest direct payments for 2022.

The recipients of the basic public interest direct payments are 7,807 farming households, with area-based direct payments going to 3,868 households (7.8 billion KRW) and small-scale farmer direct payments to 3,939 households (4.7 billion KRW).

Sancheong-gun plans to make the payments simultaneously across all towns and townships on the 8th.

Now in its third year of implementation, the basic public interest direct payment system was established to enhance the public functions of agriculture and rural areas and to stabilize farmers' incomes.

It is a system that provides subsidies to farmers who meet certain qualifications and comply with required conditions.

The basic public interest direct payment system operates with area-based direct payments and small-scale farmer direct payments, with the payment rate for area-based payments decreasing as the cultivated area increases.

The small-scale farmer direct payment provides 1.2 million KRW per household for cultivated areas between 0.1 hectares and 0.5 hectares.

Additionally, starting this year, 17 compliance requirements such as proper management of agricultural waste, participation in village community activities, preparation and storage of farming diaries, and completion of mandatory education are fully enforced. Failure to comply with each requirement results in a reduction of the direct payment according to the public interest direct payment guidelines.

A county official stated, “Thanks to the leading role of advanced farms and a strong sense of community, all regulations in the joint farming activity sector were complied with, allowing the basic public interest direct payments to be made without reductions. We hope this will support farmers facing difficulties due to falling rice prices, natural disasters, and rising costs of agricultural materials and fuel.”
