On the 7th, the Presidential Office announced, "President Yoon plans to have dinner with the South Korean national soccer team, who performed well at the Qatar World Cup, to encourage them." The meeting with the team was originally planned as a lunch but was adjusted considering the schedules of players and coaching staff.

The day before, Chief Public Relations Officer Kim Eun-hye said in a briefing, "We hope to have lunch as early as the day after tomorrow (the 8th)." She added, "When the team members and coaching staff, who gave their all with the Taegeukgi (Korean flag) on their chests, return home, there may be a time to encourage them," and stated, "Regardless of win or loss, it was a match that filled the hearts of our people with pride, so everyone is a winner."

President Yoon is expected to commend the players' efforts who reached the Round of 16 during the dinner. Through Facebook, President Yoon said, "The drama you showed in this World Cup made the hearts of all citizens beat as one," and "I, too, will dream of a wonderful four years ahead with a happy heart along with all the people."
