[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) will hold the 2022 Youth Policy Governance Activity Sharing Exhibition ‘Jungnang, Youthfulness 展’ at Jungnang-gu Office for three days starting December 14.
The Youth Policy Governance Activation Project is a project where proposals from the Jungnang Youth Network are reviewed by the responsible departments and budgets are allocated to implement them.
This year, a total of 203 youths participated in six projects: ▲Jungnang Youth Network ▲1934 Youth Era ▲Support for socially isolated youth ▲Support for non-technical youth entrepreneurs ▲Youth Food and Health Ham-bap Day ▲Youth Festival.
This activity sharing exhibition is being held for the first time since the activation support project was promoted in 2020. Organized by the Youth Root Social Cooperative, it will feature an exhibition where participants’ activity records and works can be appreciated, along with activity videos, performances, and lectures.
The exhibition will be held for three days from the 14th on the first floor lobby of Jungnang-gu Office. Visitors can see photos, videos, and other activity records of youth projects carried out this year, as well as works created by the participants themselves.
The activity sharing event will take place on the 15th at 7 p.m. Attendees can enjoy activity videos, band performances, and classical music performances to commemorate the youth activities conducted so far, and it will conclude with a lecture titled ‘The Secret to Growing Myself’ by Hyun Seung-won, CEO of Metatainment, who has given lectures on ‘Time to Change the World’ and other platforms. Information on how to apply for the lecture can be found on the Jungnang-gu Office website.
The district expects this activity sharing event to be a time for youths and residents to enjoy together and interact.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “It is meaningful that everyone can commemorate the activities that youths have independently carried out throughout the year through this sharing event,” and added, “We will continue to strive to discover various youth support projects that empower young people.”
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) produced five videos on future growth industries to leverage the regional characteristics of G-Valley (Seoul Digital Industrial Complex), a hub of advanced industries, and to help youths explore future-oriented career paths.
The video topics cover five industries expected to have the highest growth potential as of 2022: ▲Secondary batteries (batteries) ▲Hydrogen economy ▲Autonomous driving ▲Carbon emission trading ▲NFT (non-fungible token). Each video is about 8 minutes long. Five questions are included in each video to help youths understand future growth industries and explore their own career paths.
Last year, videos on growth industries such as metaverse, robotics, smart healthcare, agtech, and big data were developed and provided to local elementary, middle, and high school students through school classes.
Schools wishing to use the growth industry videos can apply by searching for career experience programs on the Ministry of Education’s career exploration portal site ‘Kkumgil’.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “Growth industries are future jobs and essential for strengthening global competitiveness, but youths face accessibility limitations,” adding, “We hope youths will explore their careers through these growth industry videos and dream of a hopeful future.”
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) operated the 6th and 7th sessions of the ‘Media School’ on the 5th at the Gwangjin-gu Office Internet Broadcasting Studio and the Comprehensive Situation Room.
The ‘Media School,’ jointly run by Gwangjin-gu and the Korea Communications Agency, is a program that provides local youths with opportunities to experience media careers such as announcers, PDs, and camera directors using professional personnel and in-house facilities and equipment.
Through operating the ‘Media School,’ the district not only provides customized career education to students as a local educational community but also strives to enhance communication with residents by promoting district administration and improving its image.
On the day, 28 first-year students from Yangjin Middle School participated in two sessions, each lasting one hour.
The students completed simple theoretical classes including ▲Introduction to various media jobs ▲Basics of pronunciation and articulation ▲Script practice, then proceeded to practical experiences such as ▲AR experience ▲Filming equipment experience ▲Announcer experience ▲PD and camera director experience.
One participating student said, “Standing in front of the camera in the internet broadcasting studio and reading the prompter script made me really feel like an announcer, which was nerve-wracking,” and added, “I was considering a career related to media, so this was very helpful.”
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I hope youths take a step closer to their dreams by directly experiencing media-related jobs that are usually difficult to experience.”
This year’s ‘Media School’ schedule ended on the 5th. The district plans to continue media education for residents and youths next year.
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will operate a ‘Housing Safety Accompaniment Counseling Office’ visiting universities to assist college students who need help with real estate contracts.
Nowon-gu has six universities besides the Korea Military Academy, where all students must live in dormitories during the semester, making it an area with high demand for real estate information among college students.
Reflecting this, the district has been providing the ‘Safe Jeonse and Monthly Rent Contract Assistance Service’ since September. The ‘Housing Safety Managers,’ composed of licensed real estate agents, accompany single-person households such as college students, young workers, and seniors to assist with real estate contracts.
Previously, there was inconvenience as visits to the district office were required on weekdays, but the district has set up the ‘Housing Safety Accompaniment Counseling Office’ at six universities before the start of the new semester to resolve this inconvenience.
The counseling covers various information including customized professional real estate consultation, house viewing accompaniment, contract review as part of the ‘Safe Jeonse and Monthly Rent Contract Assistance Service,’ and a brokerage fee half-price support project for local college students.
The counseling office operation starts on the 6th. Counseling will be conducted at six universities: Sungseo University, Seoul Women’s University, Samyook University, Kwangwoon University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, and Induk University. Operating hours are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Housing Safety Managers, consisting of six experienced licensed real estate agents, will participate in pairs. For more details, contact the Real Estate Information Division.
Meanwhile, since January this year, the district has been implementing the ‘Brokerage Fee Half-Price Support Project’ to stabilize housing for vulnerable single-person households. In cooperation with 80 licensed real estate offices that agreed to donate their services, brokerage fees for lease contracts with deposits under 100 million KRW for college students and vulnerable groups (basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups) are reduced by half, up to 150,000 KRW. Basic information such as the location and contact details of these offices can be found on the district website.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Even if there are good policies, if participation is low, the district must actively promote and reach out,” and added, “I hope college students with no experience in real estate contracts will enjoy practical benefits through the Housing Safety Accompaniment Counseling Office visiting universities.”
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) prepared a unique event where transitional youths experiencing various changes before advancing to higher education share their concerns and find solutions through theater.
Transitional youths refer to those about to advance to a new school level such as middle school, high school, or university. This period is a transitional phase toward adulthood, during which social and psychological identity confusion may occur, requiring attention.
Accordingly, the district prepared a participatory ‘educational theater’ so that youths can honestly share and communicate their transitional concerns without boredom.
The event, held on December 7 and 8 at the Songpa-gu Citizens’ Hall auditorium, will be attended by about 900 third-year middle and high school students.
The theater will be conducted by ‘Drip Boy Band,’ an active performing group in Daehangno. The performers, who hold youth career counseling qualifications, will address realistic concerns such as youth career, relationships, and parental relations with a professional perspective and added fun.
Notably, the conclusion of the play will be chosen directly by participating youths, providing an opportunity for reflection. Using wireless voting devices, attendees select their preferred ending, which is then reflected in the performance’s conclusion.
After the play, a talk concert will be held with ‘Drip Boy Band’ to share pre-written concerns and wishes.
Additional events include a ‘Life Four-Cut’ photo zone, a popular youth culture, and CPR training for safety accident prevention.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Personally, through theater activities in university, I was able to develop various social competencies from humanities literacy to leadership,” and added, “I hope the youths attending this educational theater will have an opportunity to share their concerns honestly and find answers through communication.”
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) is organizing the ‘2022 Large Corporation Current Employee Mentoring’ to provide job-seeking youths with valuable employment experiences and job-related information.
The mentoring will be conducted online from December 6 for three days from 7 to 9 p.m., targeting about 100 local youths in their 20s and 30s who have completed prior registration. Through discussions and free Q&A sessions, all questions about employment at large corporations can be resolved.
On the 6th, a current employee working as a PM (Product Manager) at Apple in the U.S. will discuss ‘Preparing for PM Jobs at Domestic and Overseas Large Corporations.’ On the 7th, a sales representative from Lotte Korea Seven will share ‘Sales Management Know-how from a Sales Expert.’ On the 8th, a distribution manager from Lotte Department Store will introduce the planning strategies of the ‘Big 3’ in distribution.
Additionally, advice that is practically helpful for job preparation will be provided, including ▲How to write English resumes and self-introductions for global companies ▲Interview preparation methods by company and job ▲Analysis and writing tips for job-specific self-introduction questions ▲Work atmosphere at companies ▲Understanding of overall job duties, along with vivid on-site stories that only current employees can share.
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “This employment support event was promoted considering the trend of companies prioritizing ‘suitable talents’ over ‘excellent talents’ in hiring,” and added, “I hope participants leverage the employment secrets shared by current employees to enhance their competitiveness and get jobs where they desire.”
