Cargo Solidarity Transport Refusal 'Serious'... Changwon Special City Activates Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam activated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and held a countermeasure meeting in response to the Cargo Solidarity's collective transportation refusal.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam activated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and held a countermeasure meeting on the 6th to discuss response plans by related departments following the Cargo Solidarity's collective transport refusal.

The government has issued a work commencement order to the Cargo Solidarity, which began collective transport refusal on the 24th of last month demanding the abolition of the "Sunset Clause of the Safe Freight Rate System," and is increasing pressure by announcing a tough response not only to the Cargo Solidarity but also to the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.

The city held a meeting chaired by Deputy Mayor Jo Myung-rae to grasp the trends of the Cargo Solidarity by each department, assess the damage situation in Changwon, and discuss corresponding countermeasures.

In addition to the Cargo Solidarity's collective transport refusal, the government’s position is that acts that obstruct or threaten normal operation are also criminal acts. To prepare for emergency situations, the city formed a General Situation Team, Corporate Support Team, Public Relations Team, and Situation Support Team to continuously monitor trends and maintain an emergency contact network with related organizations to thoroughly prevent safety accidents.

In particular, the city is making efforts to minimize inconvenience to businesses and citizens by organizing and operating an energy sector (Petroleum Supply Emergency Situation Team) and a corporate damage sector (Small and Medium Business Support Emergency Situation Team) to check the inventory and supply status of gas stations in the jurisdiction.

Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “Taking this incident as an example, it is necessary to have sector-specific statistics and countermeasures unique to Changwon Special City to protect people’s livelihoods above all.” He added, “We will prepare departmental work statistics, mobilize all information to grasp the trends of the Cargo Solidarity and the damage status of local businesses, and establish countermeasures.”
