Let's Ride Horses in Gimhae Next Year Too!

Support for Horse Riding Experience for 489 Elementary, Middle, and High School Students

Let's Ride Horses in Gimhae Next Year Too! Students are experiencing horseback riding at a private equestrian center in Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, has decided to support horseback riding experiences for 489 elementary, middle, and high school students early next year.

On the 6th, the city announced that it secured a project budget of 159 million KRW and will support a total of 489 students, prioritizing those who did not receive horseback riding experience support this year and upper-grade students, with 442 for general horseback riding and 47 for social public horseback riding.

This year, the student horseback riding experience support project is ongoing for 854 students from 50 elementary, middle, and high schools over eight months.

The 798 students in general horseback riding and 56 students in social public horseback riding are experiencing theory classes, getting familiar with horses, leading horses, and riding horses for one hour per session, ten sessions in total, at private horseback riding centers in Daedong-myeon and Chilsanseobu-dong.

The city explained that due to the impact of COVID-19 last year, the student horseback riding experience could not be conducted, so the budget was carried over to this year to implement the experience project.

With a total project cost of 277 million KRW, for general horseback riding experiences, 70% of the 320,000 KRW per person cost, amounting to 224,000 KRW, was supported.

It was added that living horseback riding for students who find self-payment difficult and rehabilitation horseback riding for disabled students were fully supported, covering costs ranging from 320,000 KRW to about 420,000 KRW.

Lee Byung-gwan, director of the city’s Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We hope to give students the opportunity to experience a new culture, horseback riding, which is usually difficult to access, help children understand various occupational groups, and that this project will also contribute to improving the management conditions of horseback riding centers.”
