Earn Pocket Money This Winter Break by Working Part-Time at Seoul District Offices?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Autonomous districts in Seoul, such as Gwangjin and Gwanak-gu, are recruiting university student part-timers for the winter vacation.

Accordingly, university students will have a great opportunity to gain administrative experience while earning pocket money.

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is recruiting participants for the ‘Winter Vacation University Student Administrative Experience Group’ targeting university students residing in the district until December 12.

The University Student Administrative Experience Group is operated every summer and winter vacation to provide local university students with opportunities to experience public office work through employment at public institutions and to assist in career choices.

Eligibility requirements include being a student or on leave from a two-year or higher university with an address in Gwangjin-gu as of December 5. However, students enrolled in the Korea National Open University, cyber universities, credit bank systems, graduate students, and those who participated in the university student administrative experience group during last winter vacation or this summer vacation are excluded.

The recruitment quota is a total of 80 students: 70 for general selection and 10 for special selection including recipients of basic livelihood security and lower-income groups. Selected students will be divided into two groups of 40 each; the first group will work from January 2, and the second group from February 1, each for 20 days.

They will perform auxiliary tasks related to district administration such as data management, civil complaint guidance, and fieldwork support at the district office, community service centers, health centers, and libraries. Working hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., five days a week, and the Gwangjin-gu living wage applies, with a daily wage of 55,785 KRW plus paid holiday allowances.

Students wishing to participate can apply through the district website by December 12. The selection results can be checked on December 13 under the successful applicants announcement menu on the website.

Selected students must additionally submit supporting documents such as enrollment (or leave of absence) certificates and resident registration copies. For more details, contact the Gwangjin-gu Autonomous Administration Division.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “This project is a great opportunity for young people to experience the civil servant profession in advance and participate in administration as members of the local community. The district will also listen to the diverse opinions of participating university students and reflect them in district administration to make Gwangjin-gu a better place for youth to live.”

Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) is recruiting 150 university student part-timers for the winter vacation who can gain administrative work experience and earn tuition money.

The university student part-time job program provides local university students with opportunities to experience administrative work, enhance understanding of district administration, form proper work ethics, and help with their financial situation during the winter vacation.

In particular, due to the sharp rise in prices this year, many university students are balancing studies and part-time jobs because of insufficient pocket money. Therefore, the recruitment number has been increased by 50 from last year to 150.

Eligibility requires having resident registration in Gwanak-gu as of the application start date, December 1, and being a student or on leave from a domestic university or junior college. Of the total 150 recruits, 110 will be selected generally, and 40 will be specially selected from basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, persons with disabilities, and North Korean defectors.

Selection will be made randomly through a computerized lottery. Selected students will work for 20 days from January 2 to January 27, 2023, assisting with various administrative tasks such as civil complaint guidance and data organization at the district office, community service centers, health centers, Gwanak-gu Facilities Management Corporation, and Gwanak Cultural Foundation.

University students wishing to participate can apply online through the administrative application section under the participation/reservation menu on the Gwanak-gu website by December 12. The list of selected candidates will be announced on December 14 on the district office website. For more details, contact the Gwanak-gu Autonomous Administration Division.

A district official said, “We hope many will apply for this university student part-time job, which provides valuable experience to increase understanding of the public service sector and prepare for early career life through various district administration experiences.”
