[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] For citizens participating in the street cheering for the Brazil match in the 2022 Qatar World Cup held on the 6th, the operation time of Line 5 passing through Gwanghwamun Station will be extended until 2 a.m.
After the game ends, to prepare for the crowd overlapping with the morning rush hour, the operation of Lines 2, 3, and 5 will also be increased around 6 a.m.
On the 5th, Seoul City announced that it has approved the use of Gwanghwamun for the World Cup Round of 16 Brazil match street cheering and will provide administrative support to ensure the event proceeds safely.
The operation of Line 5 passing through Gwanghwamun Station will be extended until 2 a.m. on the 6th, adding 4 additional trains. After 1 a.m., trains will arrive at Gwanghwamun Station in the upward direction at ▲1:13 a.m. (bound for Banghwa) ▲1:35 a.m. (bound for Yeouido), and in the downward direction at ▲1:25 a.m. (bound for Gunja) ▲1:46 a.m. (bound for Wangsimni).
To prepare for congestion in the subway caused by dispersing crowds after the game and citizens going to work, two additional trains each will be added to Lines 2, 3, and 5 around 6 a.m.
Buses will not extend their last service, but all 14 late-night bus routes will operate normally. Buses will be concentrated in the downtown area including Gwanghwamun between 3 and 4 a.m. on the 6th.
In this cheering event, the Sejong Center bus stop will not be temporarily closed. However, if Sejong-daero is controlled due to large crowds, 26 bus routes passing through will be detoured to nearby roads.
The city will operate an on-site comprehensive situation room as in previous street cheering events and cooperate with related organizations such as Jongno District Office, police, and fire departments to manage crowds, control traffic, and provide emergency rescue support. As temperatures drop during the early morning hours, citizens participating in the cheering event are urged to prepare thoroughly with warm clothing, gloves, blankets, and other cold-weather gear.
Emergency evacuation spaces for cold weather will be expanded compared to the third cheering event (which accommodated 80 people). Four connected tents with heating devices will be set up on the west side of the King Sejong statue in Gwanghwamun Square, and medical personnel will be stationed. Two additional tents including the operation headquarters will be operated as emergency shelters.
Additionally, for citizens' convenience, nearby restrooms will be opened, and environmental cleanup will be conducted before and after the event by the organizers, Seoul City, and Jongno District Office. The Red Devils will conduct citizen order campaigns before the game starts, during halftime, and after the game ends.
