Focus on Establishing a Regional Defense Industry Development Cooperation System

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Mayor Kim Jang-ho of Gumi City is putting effort into supporting the development of the defense industry by consecutively visiting representative defense companies in the Gumi area, such as LIG Nex1.

Mayor Kim visited Hanwha Systems' Gumi plant on the 30th of last month, and on the 5th at 10 a.m., he visited LIG Nex1 (Gumi Production Headquarters Director Park Bae-ho) to hear about the company's status and tour the production site.

This demonstrated his intention to firmly establish a public-private cooperation system for fostering the local defense industry.

At the site, Mayor Kim Jang-ho of Gumi City said, “We appreciate the expansion of facility investments by the region's leading defense companies, and the city will do its best to foster the local defense industry through generous support.”

LIG Nex1 and Hanwha Systems opened the global flow of K-defense by exporting Cheongung-II to the UAE for about 4 trillion won earlier this year, and they are setting a milestone for the domestic defense industry through securing future technologies and expanding defense-civil technology exchanges.

Park Bae-ho, Director of Gumi Production Headquarters at LIG Nex1, and Lee Ki-taek, Head of Gumi Plant at Hanwha Systems, recently established the ‘Gumi Defense Industry Corporate Council’ and are serving as joint inaugural chairmen, putting effort into revitalizing the network of local defense companies.
