Gyeongnam Province-Korea Island Promotion Agency Agreement for Designation as Global Education and Research Center

Development of the South Coast Tourism Belt, Starting 'Step by Step' from Island Advancement Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province (left), and Oh Dong-ho, President of the Korea Island Promotion Agency, are holding a memorandum of understanding to establish a policy foundation for islands in the province and strengthen cooperation.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do signed a business agreement with the Korea Island Promotion Agency on the 5th to designate a specialized global education and research center for islands on the southern coast.


The signing ceremony held in the provincial government small conference room was attended by Governor Park Wan-su, Korea Island Promotion Agency Director Oh Dong-ho, and other island-related officials.


This agreement was promoted to implement joint projects for the development of the island tourism belt and to establish a foundation for designating and operating a global education and research center for island specialists in Gyeongnam.


The main agreement items include ▲promotion of joint projects for the development of the southern coast island tourism belt ▲training of island specialists in connection with universities in the Gyeongnam region ▲joint cooperation projects with the Gyeongnam Research Institute for island-related research and academic conferences ▲designation and operation of the southern coast island global education and research center.


Gyeongsangnam-do and the Promotion Agency will maintain a cooperative system to develop, preserve, and maintain the value of the southern coast islands, and join forces to jointly promote education and research, consulting and publicity, and island tourism revitalization projects for island development.


Gyeongsangnam-do plans to utilize the island global education and research center to inform local residents about excellent sustainable island policies and to prepare development plans such as training island specialists and revitalizing tourism resources.


Governor Park Wan-su said, “Cooperation with the Korea Island Promotion Agency, which enhances the value of islands and creates future growth engines, will be an opportunity for development,” and added, “I hope that this agreement will further strengthen cooperation among local governments along the southern coast, including Jeonnam and Gyeongnam, for island development and tourism promotion.”
