[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Students of the Healthcare Future Forum executive program at Korea University Medical Center and Korea University Graduate School of Public Health have engaged in winter medical volunteer work.
The volunteer group, consisting of 26 members including 14 medical staff from Korea University Medical Center and 12 executive program students, visited the Danwon-gu Senior Welfare Center on the 3rd with the medical bus "Kkumssi Bus," the center announced on the 5th.
This medical volunteer activity was organized to contribute to improving medical welfare for local community residents who had difficulty visiting hospitals due to COVID-19, and especially to realize social value by providing medical support to vulnerable groups and elderly living alone aged 65 and over during the winter season.
On the day, medical examinations such as urine tests and blood tests were conducted for about 60 elderly visitors at the welfare center. In particular, medical staff from the colorectal surgery, thoracic surgery, and neurology departments conducted individual consultations to check the health status of the elderly and delivered first aid kits they had prepared themselves, including COVID-19 self-test kits, emergency medicines, and dressing sets.
Park Geon-woo, Head of the Social Contribution Project at Korea University Medical Center (Professor of Neurology at Korea University Anam Hospital), said, "I was moved by the Healthcare Future Forum members’ intention to do something helpful for society, so our department planned this medical volunteer work together. I hope it will greatly help local elderly people have a warm and healthy winter."
Kim Young-hoon, Vice President for Medical Affairs and Director of Korea University Medical Center, said, "I am very honored to be able to provide medical volunteer services for the elderly in the area where Korea University Ansan Hospital is located. I sincerely thank all members of the Healthcare Future Forum executive program at Korea University Medical Center for creating this opportunity to deliver warm care as health guardians at the end of the year."
