[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Kang Tae-seon, chairman of BYN Black Yak, has announced his candidacy for the 35th Seoul Sports Council president election in the 2nd term of civilian administration.
On the 5th, Chairman Kang held a press conference at the Korea Press Center to declare his candidacy for the Seoul Sports Council president and stated that he would open an era of professional management in Seoul sports.
Chairman Kang has extensive experience in Seoul sports administration, having served as president, auditor, and vice president of the Seoul Mountaineering Federation under the Seoul Sports Council. Additionally, as vice president of the Korea Mountaineering Federation and president of the Seoul Mountaineering Federation, he has climbed the Himalayas dozens of times, including world-renowned high mountains such as Annapurna, Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Cho Oyu. As a mountaineer and sportsman, he has contributed to national development through nearly 50 years of business activities and social engagements, including serving as chairman of the Outdoor Sports Industry Association.
His main pledges include stable operation of the Sports Council through securing finances, establishing a grassroots sports foundation at the district level, fostering hub-type school sports, and bidding for the 2036 Seoul Olympic Games.
Chairman Kang said, “In the past, local government sports councils were managed mainly by government authorities, but now they have shifted to a private-sector focus,” adding, “I hope the government will trust and entrust sportspeople so that the private sector can lead the sports community.” He continued, “Under the agenda ‘Sports is Economy,’ I want to actively contribute to the bid for the 2036 Seoul Olympics by cooperating closely with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon through the Sports Future Forum, which was formed three years ago.”
