[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] The 30th Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism National Amateur Badminton Tournament, held on the 3rd and 4th at the Badminton Stadium in Miryang-si, Gyeongnam, was held successfully with a record number of participants.


Hosted by the Korea Badminton Association and organized by the Gyeongsangnam-do Badminton Association and Miryang-si Badminton Association, this tournament was held across four venues: Miryang-si Badminton Stadium, Miryang-si Sports Center, Miryang Elementary School, and Sejong High School. Intense competition took place by age group, skill level, and event category (men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles).


Held for the first time in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament attracted over 2,000 players from 1,115 teams across 12 cities and provinces nationwide, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the event.


In the team event results, Busan took first place, Ulsan was runner-up, and Gyeongnam placed third, while Jeju Special Self-Governing Province received a special award.

Mayor Park Il-ho said, “I am grateful that so many players participated in the badminton tournament, the flower of amateur sports, in Miryang, the badminton mecca city. Miryang always welcomes the visits of all athletes. I hope all participants reap good results reflecting their efforts and finish the year well.”


He added, “Until the 22nd, the Korea Youth Theater Festival is also being held at the Miryang Arirang Art Center to celebrate the year-end, so I hope families and friends enjoy various events together and create special memories.”


The Gyeongsangnam-do Governor's Cup Amateur Badminton Tournament, the last badminton competition to close out the year 2022, is scheduled to be held today, the 17th, at the Miryang-si Badminton Stadium.
