The expansion of restrictions on single-use products was implemented according to the "Enforcement Rules of the Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources."
The number of restricted items increased from the existing 18 items, including plastic cups, to 21 items, adding 3 more items, and regulations on the use of plastic bags and others were strengthened.
In food service establishments such as restaurants and cafes, as well as collective catering facilities, single-use paper cups and plastic straws and stirrers cannot be used. Single-use plastic bags, which were previously banned only in large stores, are now also prohibited in convenience stores, supermarkets (over 33㎡), bakeries, and others.
Additionally, the use of plastic umbrella covers is restricted in large stores, and single-use plastic cheering items are prohibited in sports facilities.
The county plans to operate a one-year guidance period for the expanded target items according to the Ministry of Environment's guidelines, and will promote continuous publicity along with participatory campaigns to minimize the use of single-use products.
A county official said, "We ask for the interest and cooperation of all residents to join in reducing the use of single-use products and to protect the clean environment of Gochang-gun."
