Unmanned Surface Vehicles ‘Haegum-2, 3, 5’, Unmanned Submersibles, and Multipurpose Unmanned Helicopters Included
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] LIG Nex1 is set to unveil a variety of cutting-edge maritime unmanned capabilities at the ‘2022 Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin Defense Industry Exhibition.’
LIG Nex1 (CEO Kim Ji-chan) announced on the 5th that it will participate in the ‘Yi Sun-sin Defense Industry Exhibition,’ held over four days from the 6th to the 9th at the Naval Academy in Jinhae.
The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin Defense Industry Exhibition serves as a platform for sharing new technologies to implement the Smart Navy policy promoted by the Navy based on Defense Reform 4.0. This year, 106 booths from major domestic and international defense companies and related organizations will participate.
Through this exhibition, LIG Nex1 plans to showcase a diverse range of maritime weapon systems centered on unmanned surface vessels (Haegum-2, 3, 5), as well as unmanned underwater vehicles, multipurpose unmanned helicopters, Haegung, Bigung, and more.
LIG Nex1, boasting the largest achievements in the domestic unmanned surface vessel defense sector, will reveal swarm operation technology for the ‘Haegum-2, 3, 5’ based on the completed unmanned surface vessel ‘Haegum’ platform, along with the core technologies of each platform.
They plan to present the concept demonstration of combat unmanned surface vessels to be utilized on future battlefields, indicating the direction of the Republic of Korea Navy’s future warfare response.
Since 2015, LIG Nex1 has successfully developed Haegum-1, 2, and 3 in collaboration with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and secured the reliability of the unmanned surface vessel unit platforms.
Additionally, through the first-ever domestic real-sea trial (Sea State-4) conducted with the Navy in April 2021, they have been recognized for verifying the reliability of unmanned systems, an essential element of the manned-unmanned combined system that the Navy aims for.
Haegum-3, developed to replace Army patrol boats, can be equipped with a 12.7mm machine carbine at the front and a 70mm guided rocket at the rear, and by applying a modular approach, it can also carry drones for canister launch, enabling various attack options.
CEO Kim Ji-chan said, “We hope this exhibition will be a meaningful event to showcase weapon systems filled with the will and passion to protect the maritime nation,” adding, “We are focusing on developing various maritime unmanned systems, including Haegum, to become a representative unmanned force of the Navy’s announced ‘Navy Sea GHOST.’”
