[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is expanding its fine dust intensive management zones to protect vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly from fine dust.
The city announced on the 5th that it has additionally designated two areas?Nonhyeon 2-dong and Nonhyeon Gojan-dong in Namdong-gu, and Galsan 1 and 2-dong in Bupyeong-gu?as fine dust intensive management zones.
Accordingly, the fine dust intensive management zones in Incheon now total five, including the existing areas of Yeonan and Sinheung-dong 3-ga in Jung-gu, Hwasu and Hwapyeong-dong in Dong-gu, and Hyoseong-dong in Gyeyang-gu.
According to the "Special Act on the Reduction and Management of Fine Dust," intensive management zones are designated in areas recognized as severely polluted by fine dust, where facilities such as daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary schools, and welfare facilities for the elderly are densely located.
The Nonhyeon 2-dong and Nonhyeon Gojan-dong area (0.67㎢) includes the Namdong Industrial Complex and large ready-mixed concrete factories, while the Galsan 1 and 2-dong area (1.6㎢) houses Korea GM, with a total of 188 air emission facilities across the two zones. Additionally, there are 54 facilities used by vulnerable groups, including elderly welfare facilities.
In the intensive management zones, road dust removal cleaning is strengthened, real-time fine dust measurement and information provision are implemented, and installation of fine dust avoidance and reduction facilities such as window-attached ventilation systems and smart air showers is supported.
