Namhae-gun Lights a New Beacon for Eco-Friendly Tourism Gyeongnam Namhae-gun, Namhae Tourism and Culture Foundation, and Korea Tourism Organization Gyeongnam Branch held a lighting ceremony to commemorate the planting of 2,022 companion trees.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam, Namhae Tourism and Culture Foundation, and Korea Tourism Organization Gyeongnam Branch announced on the 5th that they held a lighting ceremony commemorating the planting of 2022 companion trees on the lawn of the Hosuk Square at the Yi Sun-sin Martyrs Park.

The 2022 companion tree planting project is a special event for the Year of Visiting Namhae-gun. It is a long-term project that has been carried out for about six months until the end of November, starting with the opening planting event in June (222 trees planted at Aenggangdasup Herb Theme Park).

This project involves local residents and tourists planting and continuously caring for companion trees. It was promoted as part of a tourism project to attract potential tourists to Namhae-gun by creating a relational population under the theme of environmental awareness and companion families.

Using the nationwide metaverse platform (Zep), a companion tree planting program was operated on a virtual map of Namhae, and among those who completed missions and SNS certification promotions, 1800 companion trees named by participants were directly planted on the lawn of Hosuk Square at Yi Sun-sin Martyrs Park.

The lighting ceremony held on November 30 was attended by about 150 people from 40 families.

Jo Young-ho, head of Namhae Tourism and Culture Foundation, said, “As a special event for the Year of Visiting Namhae-gun, this was carried out not only to revitalize tourism but also as an ESG project that helps the environment and society. We are truly grateful that many families participated together in the final event of the project, the tree decorating and lighting ceremony.”

Park Cheol-beom, head of the Korea Tourism Organization Gyeongnam Branch, said, “Our Gyeongnam branch is promoting a 3-zero project under the theme of ‘carbon-free travel’: zero fossil fuels, zero use of disposable products, and zero emission of non-recyclable waste.” He added, “This year, through cooperation with Namhae-gun, we were able to hold a meaningful event.”

Jang Chung-nam, governor of Namhae-gun, said, “The trees planted by our children will become precious companion trees that change the future foundation where our children will live. It is expected to serve as a beautiful flowering tree attraction and promote this Yi Sun-sin Martyrs Park.”

The tree lights at Hosuk Square in Yi Sun-sin Martyrs Park will be lit daily until the 25th.
