Providing Fully Free English Education Opportunities for Children from Low-Income and Vulnerable Groups
Jan 2-13, 2023. Targeting 600 Students from 2nd Grade Elementary to 2nd Grade Middle School
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City will operate the "2022 Dream Tree Winter Vacation English Camp" for experiential English learning targeting children from low-income and vulnerable groups (grades 2 to 8) as a commuting program at Busan Global Village located in Busanjin-gu from January 2 to 13, 2023.
Since its inception in 2010, the "Dream Tree English Camp," now in its 13th year, is a project that provides experiential English learning to improve the English skills of children from low-income and vulnerable groups, with all educational expenses fully covered by the city.
Since its launch, a total of approximately 8,700 participants have joined through the first half of this year, establishing it as Busan City's representative project for student English education.
This camp will be held twice, from January 2 to 6 and from January 9 to 13, 2023, each session lasting 5 days, targeting 300 participants per session for a total of 600 students.
Students wishing to participate can apply through their district or county of residence from the 5th to the 16th. Since the program targets low-income and vulnerable groups, children from low-income families will be given priority, with secondary opportunities provided to students from multicultural and large families.
Due to the risk of COVID-19 resurgence, this camp will be operated as a commuting program using shuttle buses, with classes organized by English proficiency (separating elementary and middle school levels), providing experiential English learning daily from 9:00 AM to 5:10 PM.
Lee Yoon-jae, Director of the Youth Industry-Academia Bureau of the city, said, "We hope many students gain confidence and interest in English through the Dream Tree English Camp, and we will also strive to build an environment where more students and citizens can freely learn English, making Busan a 'city comfortable for speaking English.'"
