Development of Standard Design for 'Autonomous Building Number Plates' Reflecting the Identity of Suwon Hwaseong District

Development of Standard Design for 'Autonomous Building Number Plates' Reflecting the Identity of Suwon Hwaseong District Autonomous Building Number Plate

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has developed a standard design for 'autonomous building number plates' that express the identity and characteristics of the 'Suwon Hwaseong District.'

The Suwon Hwaseong District is home to the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as Paldalmun (South Gate) and Janganmun (North Gate), with traditional hanok houses well preserved in the surrounding area, giving it a unique cultural character.

The new building number plates are characterized by a design that matches the traditional and serene atmosphere of the Suwon Hwaseong District.

Among the colors designated as representative and cultural colors in the 'Suwon City Color Guidelines,' the color 'Janganmun Black' was used as the background color, and the Paldalmun design, representing the unique architectural style of Suwon Hwaseong, was used as the background of the number plate.

There are three types to choose from according to the ratio: a rectangular design made of aluminum material and a curved design made of corten (weathering steel plate) material. The appropriate shape of the number plate can be attached according to the building facade.

The autonomous building number plates can be freely used in the desired design as long as they include road name address information and meet the minimum size requirements.

The information is written from top to bottom in the order of Korean road name, English road name, and building number. The font used is Bongothic, which has excellent readability.

The new building number plates will be first applied to public buildings in Paldal-gu, such as the Hwaseong Business Office, Suwon Cultural Foundation, and Seongyeong Library, and will gradually be expanded.

A Suwon City official said, "The specialized building number plate design will express the identity of the Suwon Hwaseong District and help form the image of Suwon City," adding, "We will continue to develop detailed designs of urban spaces to create a beautiful and sophisticated city."
