[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Kim Sookhee, a poetry reciter and English teacher at the public Haenam Technical High School, was officially appointed on the 1st as a director and poetry recitation committee chairperson of the Korea-USA Cultural Arts Foundation (USA).
Founded in 2005, the Korea-USA Cultural Arts Foundation is a cultural and artistic organization officially registered with the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Based in Washington and New York, it actively promotes the excellence of Korean culture and arts to all Americans.
Starting performances in the U.S. around May next year, Teacher Kim, who will lead the globalization of poetry recitation, holds a brilliant record as a 13-time national poetry recitation competition champion and the top multi-award winner in the national poetry recitation competition, receiving the highest poetry recitation grand prize in Korea. She is currently selected as a master at the Korea Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations headquarters in Seoul and actively performs poetry recitations.
Teacher Kim completed her doctoral coursework in Creative Writing at Gwangju University a few years ago and is currently focusing on finalizing her doctoral dissertation, which is scheduled to be published early next year.
At the same time, she has a unique background of studying the Cultural Arts Management track at Kyung Hee University Graduate School, passionately and academically integrating literature and cultural arts to advance poetry recitation.
Also, as the grand prize winner of the 2021 National English Poetry Recitation Contest organized by Seoul News Edu Newspaper, she has showcased excellent English poetry recitation skills domestically and is currently running a startup that translates Korean poems into English to promote the excellence of Korean poetry.
In addition to poetry recitation performances such as the ‘Night of Poetry Recitation at the National Assembly,’ she serves as a chief judge and judge, holds executive positions in cultural arts organizations, and has planned, conducted, and promoted events for 15 years alongside teachers, students, and parents. For her contributions to cultivating good character, she received the 2017 Korea Press Association Korea Sexuality Education Award.
Having published a poetry collection titled ‘Recipe to Avoid Misunderstandings’ last September and reborn as a poet, Teacher Kim plans to make a significant mark in the Korean poetry recitation world and demonstrate a vigorous path forward to provide qualitative enhancement in Korea-USA exchanges and the globalization of poetry recitation.
