Clean and Beautiful Streets... Gijang-gun Replaces Signs at 32 Businesses through 'Signboard Improvement Project' Before and after comparison photos of the 'Jeonggwan Deoksan-gil Signboard Improvement Project'.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] Busan Gijang-gun completed the ‘Jeonggwan Deoksan-gil Signboard Improvement Project’ at the end of last November to create clean and beautiful streets.

This project, selected through a public contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, had a total budget of 180 million KRW. It replaced and installed illegal and old signboards with distinctive ones along a 320m section of Jeonggwan Deoksan-gil in Jeonggwan-eup, Gijang-gun, covering 32 businesses, greatly improving the urban landscape.

The area is an old downtown district excluded from the Jeonggwan New Town development zone, where relatively old and disorderly signboards required overall improvement.

Accordingly, in January of this year, Gijang-gun designated and announced the project section as an ‘Outdoor Advertising Maintenance Pilot Zone’ and formed a residents’ council centered on residents and business owners to collect their opinions.

After officially starting the project in April, the county conducted a total of seven design consulting sessions and designed signboards suited to the characteristics of the street and businesses, proceeding with installation. On November 25, 36 wall-mounted signboards and 30 small projecting signboards were installed for 32 businesses.

Window-type advertisements that were excessively large and contained too much information were replaced with various styles harmonizing with the surroundings.

A Gijang-gun official said, “The project was successfully completed thanks to the active cooperation of residents and business owners,” and added, “We expect the signboard improvement project to create a pleasant living space for residents and revitalize the depressed local commercial district.”
