[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Jeonjangyeon) held a subway boarding protest during the evening commute on the 1st, demanding guaranteed budgets for disability rights.
According to Seoul Metro, Jeonjangyeon members began their evening commute subway boarding protest around 5:20 PM that day. The members boarded the subway at Yeouido Station on Line 5, transferred at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station on Line 4, and moved to Samgakji Station. This caused some delays in the operation of Line 4 trains.
Earlier, Jeonjangyeon held a "National Concentrated Resolution Rally" in front of the Irum Center in Yeongdeungpo-gu. The organization stated, "Since the enactment of the Act on Support for Disabled Activities and the Disability Pension Act in 2010, the budget for disability welfare has steadily increased, but it still remains at the level of sympathy and charity," emphasizing, "Budgets related to disabilities must be guaranteed as our 'rights'." The organization announced that ahead of the 30th "International Day of Persons with Disabilities" on the 3rd, they will hold public rallies over two days, the 1st and 2nd, to urge the guarantee of disability budgets.
