[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Lee Seung-hwa, the mayor of Sancheong County, emphasized in his policy speech that he will successfully lead the 2023 Sancheong World Traditional Medicine Anti-Aging Expo. He also stated that he will accelerate efforts to create a prosperous Sancheong County through investments in future food sources such as advanced agriculture development.
Mayor Lee made these remarks at the main session of the 287th Sancheong County Council's 2nd regular meeting held on the 1st, presenting the direction for next year's county administration and four strategic goals.
The four strategic goals for Sancheong County in 2023 proposed by Mayor Lee are ▲ Successful hosting of the 2023 Expo ▲ Expansion of the foundation for advanced agriculture development ▲ Realization of customized welfare ▲ A vibrant local economy.
First, in the area of successfully hosting the 2023 Expo, the plan is to establish a support system that will demonstrate economic growth driven by discovering future new industries integrated with the Korean traditional medicine anti-aging industry and creating new added value through the successful hosting of the Expo.
Through this, they intend to present a new vision for traditional medicine and Korean traditional medicine by realizing the future promised by Korean traditional medicine anti-aging, and by promoting the scientification, industrialization, and popularization of world traditional medicine.
Secondly, the expansion of the foundation for future food source projects through advanced agriculture development.
This includes fostering professional farmers through continuous agricultural education, large-scale agriculture through the transition to smart farming, continuous promotion of agricultural welfare services such as attracting seasonal workers and supporting communal village meals, and leading future agriculture and revitalizing the economy by strengthening the capabilities of young farmers and agricultural organizations by product type.
Thirdly, the realization of customized welfare that all residents can feel.
This involves creating a child-friendly environment linked to policies responding to local extinction, improving welfare and services for the disabled, expanding customized basic livelihood security and integrated care services for the elderly, ensuring that people of all ages can enjoy various welfare benefits through tailored welfare.
Finally, building a vibrant local economy.
In the difficult situation faced by residents due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the plan is to move away from simple cash support projects and focus on projects that enhance the region’s self-sustainability.
This includes cultural tourism policies reflecting the public’s growing interest in health, developing tourism products connecting all towns and townships through the Jirisan Tunnel, revitalizing commercial districts through improvements and modernization of traditional markets, and actively securing funds to respond to local extinction, mobilizing all administrative power to create a revitalized Sancheong.
To this end, Sancheong County has prepared a main budget of 632.2 billion KRW for next year to promote key projects.
This main budget, the largest in the history of county administration, increased by 26.5 billion KRW compared to last year’s original budget.
Mayor Lee Seung-hwa said, “The global economic downturn caused by high oil prices and high interest rates, along with the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, has intensified difficulties for the livelihood economy and small and medium-sized merchants. We will turn these crises into opportunities in 2023 and make it a year in which the county takes another leap forward through the successful hosting of the Expo.”
He continued, “Both the Sancheong County Council and the executive branch will unite to respond to the trust of residents with more sincere and responsible administration. We will do our best to make Sancheong a place where everyone is happy through new changes.”
He added, “I firmly believe that if we all unite with one heart and one mind, the path we take will always be bright and clear.”
