[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Motor announced on the 1st that it sold 351,179 vehicles domestically and internationally last month, a 10.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
In the domestic market, sales decreased by 1.8% to 60,926 units during the same period, while overseas sales increased by 13.8% to 290,253 units. With the depreciation of the Korean won, selling new cars overseas rather than domestically has helped performance, leading to an increase in export volume.
In the domestic market, models such as the Avante (5,700 units), Casper (5,573 units), Palisade (4,366 units), and Porter (7,020 units) sold steadily. Casper recorded its highest monthly sales since its launch in September last year. The premium brand Genesis sold 11,615 units, a 1.2% decrease compared to the same period last year.
From the beginning of this year through last month, cumulative domestic sales totaled 618,497 units, a 6.4% decrease compared to the same period. Exports increased by 3.0% to 2,981,641 units. The total cumulative sales domestically and internationally reached 3,600,138 units, a 1.2% increase over the same period.
The company stated, "As the shortage of semiconductor parts gradually recovers, we will increase market share and strengthen profitability by launching competitive new vehicles and optimizing production and sales strategies."
