26 Welfare Organizations Deliver to 479 Households
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jinsu) held a 'Love Kimchi Delivery Ceremony' in front of the welfare center's large dining hall at Gwangyang Steelworks on the 30th, sharing warm affection with local residents.
The ceremony was attended by Ju Sunsun, Deputy Mayor of Gwangyang, Seo Youngbae, Chairman of Gwangyang City Council, Lee Cheolho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, Yoon Jiyoung, President of Gwangyang YWCA, Yoo Youngmi, Director of Gwangyang City Senior Nursing Home, volunteers, and other event officials.
The 'Love Kimchi Delivery Ceremony' is an event where Gwangyang Steelworks delivers kimchi, a precious Korean food, to neighbors in need such as social welfare facilities, homebound elderly, disabled persons, and single-parent families to help them have a warm winter during the cold season.
Started in 2014 by reflecting the voices of the local community, this delivery ceremony has reached its 9th year this year, providing approximately 24,000 heads of kimchi to 4,337 households so far.
This amount is enough for 1,350 four-person households to eat for one year.
This year, Gwangyang Steelworks is using 60 million KRW from the Jeonnam Social Welfare Community Chest designated donation to deliver 3,600 heads (850 containers) of carefully packed kimchi to 479 neighboring households and 26 welfare organizations.
In particular, the kimchi delivered to 10 local facilities for the disabled, 7 senior facilities, 2 welfare facilities for vulnerable groups, 2 women's welfare facilities, and 5 child facilities will be used for meal services for facility users, providing them with a hearty meal.
Lee Cheolho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, "Kimchi, an essential food on the Korean dining table, is being delivered to neighbors in need, and we hope that the warm love and affection of Gwangyang Steelworks will be conveyed." He added, "Gwangyang Steelworks will continue its corporate citizenship activities to develop together with neighbors in the local community."
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is actively striving to realize a company that works with the local community by presenting a model where companies and society develop together to coexist and prosper. This includes delivering the specially made 'Modu Ae Meal Truck' to local welfare facilities to address food shortages and supporting 40 tons of white rice worth 100 million KRW to the Love Sharing Welfare Foundation last September.
