North Korea's external propaganda outlet Choson Today reported on the 30th that "many medicines beneficial for women's health and beauty have been developed and produced, receiving favorable reviews from users," introducing two medicines: 'Isoflavone Compound Pills' and 'Flavone Whitening Solution.' [Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] North Korea has independently produced health functional foods that alleviate menopausal symptoms. Despite severe shortages of supplies due to economic difficulties and sanctions, it appears to be striving to meet the diverse needs of its residents.
According to a report by North Korea's external propaganda outlet Chosun Today on the 29th of last month, two types of menopausal health functional foods developed and produced in North Korea are receiving great responses from residents.
The media introduced the 'Isoflavone Compound (복방) Pills' developed and produced by the Jinheung Health Pharmaceutical Factory, describing them as "exclusive health foods for women that prevent and treat various diseases occurring among women."
It also claimed that, along with skin beauty effects, the pills have therapeutic effects on menopausal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, depression, nausea, loss of appetite, and joint pain, as well as benefits like lowering blood cholesterol, treating hypertension, boosting immunity, and antioxidant effects.

It also introduced the 'Flavon Whitening Solution' developed and produced by the Kangbong Pharmaceutical Factory, stating that it "is used to eliminate menopausal disorders, osteoporosis (골송소증), acne, and pimples, making the skin clear and smooth."
It added, "This health food has a remarkable effect where the disappearance of freckles, age spots, and acne?common beauty concerns for women?and beauty effects begin to appear within 3 to 5 days after use."
Choi Eun-joo, a research fellow at the Sejong Institute, analyzed, "The fact that medicines for prevention and treatment of common diseases that appear with aging, rather than drugs for treating serious illnesses, are being produced indicates that there is demand for this within North Korea as well."
Meanwhile, due to difficulties in importing external goods caused by border closures from the spread of COVID-19 and prolonged sanctions against North Korea, the country has recently been producing various domestic products under the principle of 'self-reliance.'
