[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences on the death of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin on the 30th.


On the day, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said, "Our government highly appreciates former President Jiang's contributions to the development of Korea-China relations, including the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and China in 1992."


He added, "We pray for his peaceful rest and extend our condolences to his bereaved family."


Regarding plans to send a condolence message to China concerning the death of former President Jiang, he said, "Preparations are underway."


Meanwhile, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that Jiang Zemin, the third paramount leader of China, passed away at 12:13 p.m. local time in Shanghai while receiving treatment for leukemia and other illnesses.


According to a joint announcement by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and the State Council, Jiang Zemin's multiple organ functions weakened due to complications from leukemia, and despite receiving emergency treatment, he passed away on the day.
