[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed condolences on the death of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin.


According to major foreign media on the 30th, Prime Minister Kishida stated, "I am deeply saddened" and "I sincerely offer my condolences to the Chinese government and people."


Prime Minister Kishida evaluated former President Jiang, saying, "He not only contributed to China's development by promoting reform and opening-up policies but also played an important role in Japan-China relations, including being the first Chinese president to officially visit Japan in 1998."


The Japanese government announced that Prime Minister Kishida's message of condolence was sent to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.
