[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Samsung Engineering announced on the 30th that it has become the world's first company to simultaneously obtain certification for four international standards in the project field established by ISO (International Organization for Standardization).

On the previous day, Samsung Engineering acquired international standard certification in the project field from DNV (Det Norske Veritas) of Norway, one of the three major global certification bodies. Samsung Engineering was simultaneously certified for four ISO standards in the project field, ISO 21502 to 21505, and this integrated certification of international standards in the project field is the first in the world.

ISO 21502 to ISO 21505 are international standards established this year to set principles and procedures for project management. ISO 21502 provides standard guidelines for processes, systems, personnel, and other requirements necessary for project execution, while ISO 21503 and ISO 21504 respectively expand in scale and scope to cover program (large-scale projects) and portfolio (business unit level) operations. ISO 21505 provides standard guidelines for integrated management of projects, programs, and portfolios.

The plant EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) sector, which Samsung Engineering focuses on, is a representative project industry where establishing a standardized project concept, terminology, procedures, and project management system is important due to the variable execution environment and complex process characteristics. Samsung Engineering pursued this certification to establish improvement directions for integrated project management, elevate business capability levels, and proactively respond to international standard requirements from clients such as global oil majors and national oil companies during project execution.

DNV audited a total of 66 items related to Samsung Engineering’s project, program, portfolio, and governance systems, including regulations, procedures, standard documents, and roles and responsibilities by field, through three stages. Samsung Engineering received the highest grade, Level 5, for all four international standards, recognizing its world-class project management capabilities. Specifically, it is known to have scored highly in international standard items related to project management systems and operations, program budget management, business division portfolio operations, and governance.

A Samsung Engineering official said, "Our company’s efforts in process innovation across the entire organization have led to international recognition of our project management capabilities," adding, "We plan to actively explain the significance of international standard certification to clients from the early stages of projects, utilize it in marketing activities, and translate it into project performance."
