Ministry of Education Holds 100-Person Forum on Digital Talent Development

Proposals on Teacher Roles and AI Assistant Utilization in the Digital Era
Addressing the Need for Digital Competency and Educational Directions

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On the 30th, the Ministry of Education will hold the ‘5th Digital Talent Cultivation 100-Person Forum’ at the Royal Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.


This forum is jointly hosted with the Education Policy Network, which has been conducting discussions on education policy by establishing a cooperative system among the Ministry of Education, metropolitan and provincial offices of education, and related educational institutions.


Under the theme of ‘Challenges of School Education Preparing for the Digital Era,’ this forum gathers various educational stakeholders including artificial intelligence (AI) and software (SW) education experts, officials from metropolitan and provincial offices of education, field teachers, students, and parents to discuss opinions from various sectors on digital talent cultivation and the digital transformation of school education.


The forum consists of two parts. The first presentation in Part 1 will be given by Jeong Jeyoung, Director of the Future Education Research Institute at Ewha Womans University, on the topic ‘Direction of School Education in the Digital Era,’ presenting issues of industrial society-type schools, changes in the role of teachers in the digital era, and ways to utilize AI assistant teachers.


The following presentation will be by Jeong Youngsik, professor at Jeonju National University of Education, on the topic ‘School-Level Digital Competency Curriculum Preparing for the Future,’ proposing the necessity of digital competency, directions for digital competency education, and the role of schools.


In Part 2, based on the presentations, discussions will be held on policy directions for enhancing the substance and quality of AI and SW education and practical measures in the educational field.


Oh Seokhwan, Director of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Education, said, "The Ministry of Education will strengthen digital literacy education for students and teachers and support the comfortable and burden-free use of digital technology in the educational field," adding, "We will focus on customized education for all and work together with teachers, experts, and metropolitan and provincial offices of education in a horizontal cooperative manner to bring about changes in the educational field."
