Carbon Neutral Jeonju Movement 'Green Jeonju' Leaps Toward Becoming a Carbon Neutral Hub

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Carbon Neutral Jeonju Action is rising as a carbon-neutral mecca of 'Green Jeonju'.

Carbon Neutral Jeonju Action announced on the 29th that it held its launch ceremony on the 28th at the seminar room on the 2nd floor of the Jungbu Vision Center, attended by about 100 Jeonju citizens.

Within this year, they plan to recruit more than 1,000 members and carry out activities that Jeonju citizens can easily access in their daily lives, such as waste separation, reducing disposable products, and healthy walking.

They are also planning a program that creates a carbon point system for members, giving back rewards proportional to their actions.

The highlight of the event was not using disposable products such as banners, leaflets, and paper cups. Instead of banners, calligrapher Oh Gwang-seok wrote on hanji paper and mounted it, and membership applications were received online.

Kim Yong-il, the executive representative, said in his greeting, "Carbon Neutral Jeonju Action will act to create a sustainable Jeonju-type circular economy where citizens, institutions, and companies practice together to leap forward as a carbon-neutral mecca of 'Green Jeonju', and realize zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through ESG management and eco-friendly energy use."

He added, "To pass on a healthy Earth to the next generation, Jeollabuk-do and Jeonju City must recognize the current severe climate crisis as an emergency situation and allocate carbon-aware budgets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for carbon neutrality and green growth, striving to use the climate crisis response fund for greenhouse gas reduction projects based on regional characteristics."
